๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณVietnam, Hanoi; Day1) our first trip abroad

Written by:

It is the second trip (outside of Busan) between the two of us, but it is more meaningful because it is the first overseas trip. Therefore, I think I tried to record many more pleasant moments. Both of them fit better than I thought because they were + foodies, so it was a more fun trip to Hanoi, Vietnam. It was a really impromptu decision to go to Hanoi, Vietnam, and economic factors seem to have played a major role because neither of them was actually engaged in economic activities. I think it is really attractive enough for people of college age like us that it is a place where prices are low for 190,000 won on a round-trip ticket.

I am writing this journal with the hope that our travel journal will be read in a fun way by leaving not only videos but also as a blog, and that it will help people travel.

On the first day, I went mainly to Hoan kiem Lake and the Old Quarter. If you take a bus from the airport, you can get off near the old quarter and check in. The Old Quarter is not that big, so you don’t have to take public transportation when you walk around.

Perhaps because each street is exotic and the vegetation is unique, it is fun to look around, so it has the beauty of walking.

We had a ฤแป“ng Xuรขn Market near our accommodation, where we settled our meals and made a circle around Lake Hoan kiem to stop by several tourist attractions (Ngแปc Sฦกn Shrine, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, etc.). On Friday, Saturday evening, night markets and beer streets are worth seeing, so I think it’s good to go around there when the sun goes down. And on weekend evenings, car-free streets are implemented thanks to traffic control in this area, making it easier to get around.

Bรบn แปc Thรบyย  snail noodle

๐Ÿ“11 Ng. ฤแป“ng Xuรขn, ฤแป“ng Xuรขn, Hoร n Kiแบฟm, Hร  Nแป™i, Vietnam

It is a restaurant located in an alley in ฤแป“ng Xuรขn Market. Main menu is snail (+ marsh snail) rice noodles called ‘Bรบn แป‘c’. We didn’t know how to order there, so we just asked for 2 bowls(I didn’t even know the menu was snail rice noodles, but found out later) and it was good that they gave us one each with a different menu.

Later, when I googled, there are two menus as below.

  • Bรบn แปC CHUแปI ฤแบฌU

The colour of the soup is yellow like curry. It literally means ‘Banana tofu rice noodles with snails’. (“Bun” means thin rice noodles.)

Yeah, I discussed with SJ and unidentified ingredients while eating, and I thought of a fried banana that I tried in Europe, so I thought, “This could be cooked banana” and it was a banana. It is said to be a traditional dish in northern Vietnam.

The reason why the soup is yellow is because of the ingredient called turmeric. SJ got it right.

Where I got information about this food is here -> (https://mmbonappetit.com/oc-chuoi-dau/)

  • Bรบn แปc

This is like basic Bรบn แป‘c noodles. There was no turmeric and more tomatoes instead. I love the soup with tomatoes. This one is good, too.

Bรกnh Tรดm Cรด แบฆm Fried shrimp&sweet potato

๐Ÿ“Ng. ฤแป“ng Xuรขn, ฤแป“ng Xuรขn, Hoร n Kiแบฟm, Hร  Nแป™i, Vietnam

We saw this restaurant from food fighter(Jongwon Baek’s tv program or something like that). SJ was craving for it since he watched the episode. It is quite popular locally, so you have to go on time. We went at an ambiguous time and told the owner to come back at 3 o’clock because they were out of stock.

  • Bรกnh Tรดm

SJ’s favorite Bรกnh Tรดm. They fry the shrimp and the paste right next to the table. It’s really crunchy! it smells a lot like shrimp. You may think “Isn’t it obvious because it’s shrimp?” But I think it smells like shrimp the most among the shrimp dishes I’ve ever eaten.

And I dip it in different sauces and herb paste in the sauce, and I think it goes well with the taste.

  • Trร  ฤรก

I am not 100% sure, but I think it’s this. Everyone was drinking this tea, so I ordered it too. It looks like iced tea but it’s not sweet and cool and clean. I recommend eating it with fried shrimp.

Bรกnh rรกn or Bรกnh cam

It is very common to see this food just sold on the street in Hanoi.

It looks like a sweet rice doughnut sold in the Korean market and tastes like that. I bought glutinous rice, sugar, and honey flavors and tried them. The taste is pretty predictable.

I searched for the name and found out that it was Ban ran or Ban cam, but what’s the difference? According to Wikipedia, Ban cam is almost the same, but Ban cam eats in the southern part of the country and Ban cam eats in the northern part of the country. So maybe Hanoi, the north, is a rebellion.

In addition, it is said that the rebellion contains jasmine essence and the inner ingredients play separately from the shell (not attached). But looking at the recipe pages, it doesn’t seem like everyone has much meaning. But it doesn’t matter wether its ran or cam as long as you enjoy it ๐Ÿ˜‰

ฤแปn Ngแปc Sฦกn Ngแปc Sฦกn Shrine

๐Ÿ“P. ฤinh Tiรชn Hoร ng, Hร ng Trแป‘ng, Hoร n Kiแบฟm, Hร  Nแป™i

It is said to be a shrine dedicated to heroes against Mongol aggression Although it is not that large, it seems good to feel the unique atmosphere of traditional Vietnamese buildings. Located on a small island, it’s incredibly quick to look around and charges admission, but it’s not that expensive, so I recommend it to be heard.

Nhร  Thแป Lแป›n Hร  Nแป™i St. Joseph’s Cathedral

๐Ÿ“2RHX+FHX, Hร ng Trแป‘ng, Hoร n Kiแบฟm, Hร  Nแป™i, Viet Nam

I think I’ve seen St. Joseph’s Cathedral built after Notre Dame in Paris, but as a person who’s been to Notre Dame, it doesn’t feel like it (probably because of the distinct difference in surroundings, vegetation, and sound), it has a unique atmosphere.

The interior is an ordinary cathedral. (Not familiar with architecture though :b )

In the evening, you can see people kicking up to the yard and conducting services or religious events.

There are many souvenir shops around the street around here, so it’s fun to look around. On the other side, there is a street where elementary, middle, and high schools are gathered, and we happened to pass by this road. The atmosphere of the school is also very different from that of Korea, so it would be a good experience to look around while walking.

There is another bean cafe here, and coconut coffee at the bean cafe is not good. (SJ & my personal opinion.)

But the view is good. If you have a good balcony view, it would be good to sit down and relax.

Cแป™ng Cร  Phรช (branch near Hoan Kiem)

๐Ÿ“116 P. Cแบงu Gแป—, Hร ng Trแป‘ng, Hoร n Kiแบฟm, Hร  Nแป™i

  • Coconut Coffee
  • trร  tแบฏc chanh leo ( passion fruit kumquat mountain tea)

Coconut coffee is mega-tasty. That’s all I can say.

Hanoi Night Market

Why did Iโ€ฆ It hasn’t been long since I went to Taiwan’s Tainan Night Market (one of the largest in Taiwan) when I traveled to Vietnamโ€ฆ I was a little disappointed because I visited with a fantasy and obsession about the Asian night market.

To be honest, the Tainan Garden Night Market is huge in size and content, so I think it’s just another level in the first place.

I thought I would sell a lot of food, so I expected it, but I rarely saw anything to eat, and I was selling things like factory-printed items and fake products. Actually, I didn’t have anything to buy, and I think it’s a good content to just walk by and watch. And it’s good to walk around because there’s traffic control.

Bรฒ Nฦฐแป›ng Xuรขn Xuรขn (Vietnamese BBQ restaurant)

๐Ÿ“47 P. Mรฃ Mรขy, Hร ng Buแป“m, Hoร n Kiแบฟm, Hร  Nแป™i

  • Bia Viet
  • Pork BBQ

There are quite a few restaurants selling this dish. Uniquely, unlike Korean styled BBQ, it is grilled meat and vegetables with margarine and oil. I think it’s worth a try. They give vegetables and bread (like banh mi bread) too. The sauce is not only unique but also very tasty.

We were just walking and got hungry, so we went into a restaurant where many local families were eating out. It was a delicious and successful choice for dinner.

Chรจ Bรกt & Trร  Chanh (Cafe)

๐Ÿ“8 Chแปฃ Gแบกo, P. Hร ng Buแป“m,  Quแบญn Hoร n Kiแบฟm, Hร  Nแป™i

  • Trร  Chanh(Iced tea)
  • sunflower seed

This is also a place where I walked in as if I was possessed by the atmosphere after seeing the locals sitting on the street in front of the cafe enjoying sunflower seeds and drinks. The Minister of Foodie(SJ) is very loyal to his duty.

They sell only one drink (although there seem to be other drinks). It tastes like iced tea with lime in it, so it’s good to drink lightly. And if you order a plate of sunflower seeds per table and eat them, you can eat infinite sunflower seeds. There are a lot of sunflower seeds.

It looks like a local restaurant. Foreigners there were only a couple sitting across the street, and everyone was local. Even college students brought laptops to the next table and did group work.

It’s a great place to end the day drunk on the cool evening weather.

Accommodation

The accommodation is con con house.

I like everything about the hotel, but the mirror is really small. Everything was good without it.

Dong Xuan Market and Ta Hien Beer Street are just around the corner, so the location is very good. There is also an ice cream shop right in front. And on the day we went, they upgraded the room for us! Also everyone we met there were mega-friendly.
